EL VENDÔME, 2024

The Mall Culture Textile Series explores the phenomenon of Qatar’s rising shopping mall trends and their profound influence on lifestyle and urban identity. This series highlights the architectural elements of malls, often inspired by European designs, and the global luxury brands they house.

EL VENDÔM borrows its name from Place Vendôme in France, a historic square synonymous with luxury and elegance. This textile piece reflects the European influences shaping the mall’s iconic architecture. The textile design incorporates distinctive elements such as imported trees and the central fountain, which serves as the mall’s main attraction. The fountain, known for its synchronized performances, showcases a fusion of international and local cultural influences by playing an array of music, including Khaleeji and Qatari songs. The textile also includes the name EL VENDÔM in Arabic alongside the year the mall was established, 2022, just before the FIFA World Cup.

The artwork also features representations of the VIP cars that shuttle shoppers from one corner of the mall to another. This complimentary service symbolizes the seamless, curated experiences offered in these spaces, blending luxury and convenience.
